Let's look at a few more components Discovery has to offer. Explore 1 or 2 of the components listed in the Teacher Center, and share your thoughts. How would you incorporate it into your classroom? How would it impact you and/or your students?

I really like the lesson plan library. There are many to choose from for each grade level.
The thematic focus seems very limited as far as topics. I'd like to see a wider range of choices.
The ready zone would come in handy if you need something quick to do. Also, if you have a student who is falling behind, he or she could go to the lesson previously taught and complete it in order to catch up with the rest of the class.
I tried the interactive atlas. It seems like a great idea, but wasn't working very quickly today. Overall, the teacher center has many useful resources.
The lesson plan library was full of information that I can use in my classroom. I liked how it included vocabulary words to incorporate into the lesson.
The lesson plan library offered a very organized way of finding interesting ways to teach about a specific topic. As a teacher, it would be very easy for me to locate these lessons and implement them into my classroom.
The lesson plan library had very little on lower elementary level language arts. I probably wouldn't use it since I am a language arts teacher. The thematic focus section had an interesting lesson plan on fairy tale by the brothers Grimm. The writing strategies teacher's guide come with a lesson and rubric for scoring their work.
I viewed the Atlas Interactive Map. Excellent video clips that correspond to the country about cultural events, historical events, many more...were excellent. I will definitely use this in my Social Studies class this year.
I found that the Discovery Education Atlas had very engaging videos which could hold the interest of students while informing. I especially enjoyed the South Africa segment on sports and how they helped grow the country.
I have used Discovery Education web site for a long time. I had NO IDEA how many different resources it had to offer!!
The Teacher Center Resources will help me as well as my students with whole, small group and independent learning centers. The atlas resource will help with the lesson I planned today. It is very engaging and interactive- a think tank! All the resources about a country/continent are there without having to search for it. Excellent!!
I am really glad that I came to this workshop. I had no idea that Discovery had so much to offer schools for free! I love to use videos and media in the classroom and the students love it as well. Its a nice change of pace from just talking all day. I especiall loved the teacher resources where you can find already made lesson plans equipped with the video links. So easy! I also liked the fact that you can search by subject area or topic, like measurment for first graders.
I use DES all the time. I've always searched for the topic that I was teaching. So I was very disappointed in the DES Teacher Center. I teach Kindergarten and most sections had little (one maybe two) or nothing for my grade level. The thematic focus seems very limited as far as topics. I'd like to see a wider range of choices for Pre-K to 2nd grade.
I really like this tool and I have been using it in my classroom. My students enjoyed watching the videos last year. It was a good way to introduce lessons and grab the students attention from the beginning of the lesson.
I just wish there was more materials for kindergarten students.
I love using discovery ed with my students. I had never spent time looking at the support materials. The lesson plan library is fantastic. Even if the lesson doesn't fit exactly into my class, it gives ideas to get started on my own design. Another area that my students will love is the calendar. They love finding out about dates that mean something to them.

The Teacher Center is great for my classes. I use videos in my class all the time. The Calendar makes history come alive everyday by showing students video content that presents events that happened on a particular calendar day, week or month the time to enhance learning.

The library was very useful. I can build good lessons with this.

Unfortunately 3rd and 4th grade was left out of the thematic units. I also found that most of the lesson plans were geared to middle school.
I love the calendar tool!
I think the Lesson Plan Library and Thematic Focus links are great teacher resources that I plan to incorporate into my teaching.

I liked the atlas
I really enjoyed the calender. I think that my students will really enjoy seeing what important events happened on their birthday.

I like the Thematic Focus link. It has many was to incorporate science and social studies with reading and math.

I enjoyed the calendar and flipchart activity. My students will really do well with that and it makes a fun presentation.
Glosgster was great!
